Combat and battle reports
How a fight is resolved round by round, what armor does, and how to read a report.
Fights against camps and lairs are resolved by the server using a fixed, seeded ruleset (currently combat-v2).
Round by round
- A fight lasts up to 8 rounds of 10 seconds each.
- Each round, both sides deal damage together. Damage is spread across all groups on the other side.
- A random variance of plus or minus 10% is applied to each side's damage.
- You win by wiping out the defenders. If neither side breaks within the rounds, your force withdraws and it counts as a defeat.
Armor
Each attack is reduced by the average armor of the defenders, but always deals at least 1 damage. High armor is strong against weak attacks. See Units and Lairs and monsters for armor values.
Special traits
Some Hollow Host creatures bend the rules:
- Wraiths ignore half of your armor.
- Banshees cut your damage in the first round.
Old reports keep the ruleset version they were fought under, so later balance changes never rewrite history.
Deterministic results
Every fight uses a seed. The same armies with the same seed always give the same result, so the outcome cannot be rerolled or exploited. Both factions get identical results for identical armies.
Strength estimates
Before a fight the game compares your force with the target and labels it weak, even or strong (the thresholds are 0.6, 1.2). Treat it as guidance: scouting makes it more accurate.
Reading a battle report
A report lists the result, rounds fought, a timeline of each round, units lost and left on both sides, rewards, and a plain-language reason for the outcome. Your most recent reports are kept in the list.
