Names and community rules
Your public gamer tag, the naming rules, and how names are checked.
Your gamer tag is public
The name you enter when creating your account is your public gamer tag.
- It is shown to other players on your keep, on your outposts and on stats cards.
- It is tied to your account, and so to your email, but your email is never shown.
- Outposts show your gamer tag plus a short player code. Internal ids are never shown.
The rules
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Length | Gamer tags: 3 to 20 characters. Outpost names: 3 to 24 characters. |
| Allowed characters | Letters (including accented Latin letters), numbers, spaces and - _ ' . |
| Not allowed | Markup, links, email addresses, IP addresses, code symbols, invisible and look-alike characters |
| Profanity | Rejected, including common tricks (symbol swaps, repeated letters, spaces between letters) |
| Reserved names | Names that look official are rejected: for example admin, moderator, staff, support, system, cedarfall and gm |
When a name is rejected the game gives a generic message and does not say which word matched.
Changing your name
You can change your gamer tag under Menu, Settings, Edit gamer tag, once every 7 days. If the tag is taken or not allowed the game says so, and if you renamed recently it shows the date you can rename again.
Outposts can be renamed once every 24 hours, see Outposts.
Be a good neighbour
Names are shown to everyone. Staff may change or remove names that are abusive or that impersonate others. Report problems through Support.
